This 216-acre site was covered with significant acreage of zone A (approximate) floodplain, much of it shallow flooding that significantly reduced the developable acreage and presented a design and floodplain management challenge. Peloton Land Solutions, a Westwood company developed existing and ultimate conditions hydrologic and hydraulic models and mapped the 100-year floodplains based on these new flows. Our hydrologists developed a complex design to reclaim 24 acres of floodplain by excavating large portions of the overbank areas to generate fill dirt and provide additional valley storage to mitigate increased runoff. Peloton Land Solutions, a Westwood company designed arterial and collector crossings of Doe Branch Tributary C, amenity ponds within the excavated floodplain, and fill areas. Valley storage excavation was accomplished without impacting jurisdictional waters of the U.S., avoiding the need for an individual permit.
